Vladimir Levchev, a Bulgarian poet and writer, is known for founding Glas, the first independent periodical in Communist Bulgaria. This magazine, prohibited by the authorities prior to the regime’s collapse in 1989, showcased the works of well-known Bulgarian and Eastern European dissidents. Levchev obtained his degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia in 1982 and completed the MFA program in Creative Writing at American University in Washington, DC in 1996. In 1994, he was granted a Fulbright scholarship.
He spent 13 years teaching language and literature in the United States before moving to the American University in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 2007. Levchev is an accomplished author with 15 poetry books, 2 essay books, and 2 novels published in Bulgaria, as well as 3 poetry books published in the United States. His work has been featured in numerous anthologies and literary magazines, and his poetry has been translated into several languages. Levchev holds a degree from American University in Washington, DC, and currently teaches at the American University in Sofia, Bulgaria.
